Tagg is me. Jonathan Rayner Tagg. Son of Stanley Edward Tagg (died in 2004) and Jeannette Rayner Tagg (still going strong) and brother to Rondi Adi and Kristen Buchanan. I grew up on Earth, Wind and Fire and James Taylor. I still dance like I did in middle school but I have more weight to my steps and I’m afraid of popping something so I no longer do the jump splits and the disco ball hurts my eyes. My basketball vertical used to be 33”, but is now 3 and 3/8 inches.
My INCREDIBLE wife Robin and I have five kids: Brianna, Michael, Leah, Noah and Chloe.
I attended seminary at Trinity, graduated in 1992 and have been in full-time ministry ever since (except for a three year stretch), mostly involved in church planting. I'm still in process of finishing a Doctor of Ministry which I'm not completely sure I'll EVER get space to finish. As of the writing of this little bio, our family just moved to Blacksburg, VA from Durham NC. In Durham we worked for the Navigators, then bought a small coffee shop (Dec of 2006) which we expanded to a restaurant and live music spot ... learning a lot about ourselves, life and God though this exciting experience.
Since December of 2009 I have the very humbling role of leading The River, the most awesome congregation of folks! We’re not sexy, not a lot of hype or spin. Just very real folks, many of whom have been through a LOT in their lives -- from death to physical illness to financial calamity to abandonment by parents, etc. We have a LOT of young folks: undergrads at VT, grad students and docs, young post-college singles and couples without kids; young families and a few older folks (kids grown up) who stabilize us and remind us to have perspective and right priorities.
I am thankful that God is alive in our Body of believers here in Blacksburg! The River flows deep, strong and full, and we find ourselves consistently filled with His spiritual water, flourishing by His side, flowing down His life in the world. I feel like I’m on the ride of my life and the river will make its way to the 'ocean' of eternal rest with Him!
