What is the Discipleship Pathway?
Discipleship, which can also be called spiritual formation, is about learning through practice to live the life that Christ modeled for us. The River’s Discipleship Pathway was developed to assist members of our congregation with learning to live this life. Newcomers are urged to join a Pathway group as one of the first steps to becoming part of The River congregation.
The Pathway consists of five sessions for each of the three overarching themes or steps that align with The River Church Mission Statement to Know, Follow, and Share Jesus, together. The Pathway is a structured, practical, and relational process for making disciples offered in a small group setting beginning in September and again in February.
Each session of the Discipleship Pathway consists of a recorded message, a sermon outline, and a practicum. Topics from the initial Pathway series are listed at right.
Discipleship Pathway FAQs
The Discipleship Pathway can be the first Life Group a newcomer joins. The Pathway is offered in a small group setting that allows newcomers to get to know one another. When the Pathway sessions end, this group may continue to meet as a new Life Group or participants may become part of other existing Life Groups.
Although we encourage all participants to attend regularly, we know that some will not be able to attend every session. To keep everyone moving forward on the Discipleship Pathway, we have sermon recordings, along with the session handouts, available to review at your convenience.
There is a corresponding curriculum for children, offered as needed. Youth are encouraged to join a Pathway group as these groups are multigenerational.
